How do I issue cards to employees or team members?
Last updated: April 10, 2026
Meow lets you issue unlimited virtual and physical Visa cards to your team, each with custom spending limits and controls. Here's how to set it up.
Step 1: Add the team member to your account
Before you can issue a card in someone's name, they need to be added to your Meow account as a team member. Anyone you want to issue a card to should be invited as a Card User (or any other role).
Go to Team in the bottom-left of your Meow dashboard.
Select Invite User and enter their email address.
Set their role to Card User (this gives them access to their own card only — they won't see balances, transactions, or any other account information).
They'll receive an invitation email. They only need to accept it — no identity verification required.
Step 2: Issue the card
Once the team member has accepted their invitation:
Go to the Cards section in your Meow dashboard.
Select New Card.
Choose Virtual or Physical.
Select the team member the card is being issued to.
Set a spending limit and choose the frequency: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or All time.
Confirm and issue.
Virtual cards are available immediately. Physical cards are mailed to your business address and typically arrive within 5–10 business days.
Can I set spending limits on each card?
Yes. Every card can have its own custom spending limit — by dollar amount and time period (daily, weekly, monthly, or a one-time total). You can update limits at any time from your Cards dashboard.
Do employees need to log in to Meow to use their card?
No. Physical cards work like any standard business card — employees can use them for purchases without ever logging in to Meow. They'll only need to log in if they want to view their own card details or transactions.
Can I issue a card without giving the employee access to my account?
Yes. The Card User role gives team members access to their own card details only — they cannot see balances, transactions, other cards, or any other account information. You retain full visibility and control as the Admin.
Can I issue cards for specific vendors or purposes instead of people?
Yes. Virtual cards can be created for vendor relationships, subscriptions, or any other purpose — they don't need to be tied to a named individual. This is useful for managing software subscriptions, ad spend, or any recurring vendor payment with a fixed budget.
Is there a limit to how many cards I can issue?
There is no limit to virtual card issuance - Only 1 physical card may be issued at any time to each user.
